Can thoughtful design help build the kind of city people want to call home?

The vision was never simply to create another food destination.

The challenge was to design a place that would attract people, support local businesses, and contribute to the long-term vitality of downtown Ruston.

The Challenge

Create a destination where people naturally gather, connect, and build community.

Design a place that reflects the character of Ruston while becoming part of the reason people choose to call it home.

The Vision

Working closely with the owner, we explored how architecture, landscape, lighting, circulation, and public space could work together to create an experience rather than simply a collection of food vendors.

The landscape became more than an amenity. It created a comfortable microclimate for outdoor dining while incorporating herbs and edible plantings that supplied the food trucks—connecting the landscape directly to the culinary experience.

Every decision was made to encourage people to linger, connect, and return.

The Approach

Heard Food Park became more than a destination for food.

It became a place where community happens—supporting local businesses, bringing people together, and contributing to the continued growth of downtown Ruston.

More importantly, it demonstrates how thoughtful placemaking can help build the kind of city people are proud to call home.

The Impact

Designed as more than a place to eat, Heard Food Park has become a place where food, music, and community come together.
